The Company traces its roots back to the early 1920's when Mathew Andis, who worked at Mitchell Motor Car Company in Racine, Wisconsin, USA as a tool maker, decided to leave the business. John Oster and Henry Meltzer asked to be partners, and Andis OM Manufacturing was born. Their business grew rapidly and soon their company was making tools and making blades for non-powered hand clippers. This partnership, however, only lasted about a year.
